I noticed today that there are two potential paths (or characters) vying for my attention. There is one where I see myself giving speeches or potentially performing spoken word poems at events. I think that version of my imagined character is a remnant of things envisioned when I was in college.
In those days, I participated in several public readings. When I moved to Raleigh, I joined Raleigh Talkmasters (a Toastmaster’s Club) because I thought that type of thing would become a big part of my life.
These days, I see so many other possibilities and my imagined character is different. Sure, she performs spoken word poems or potentially gives speeches, but maybe it’s on a platform like YouTube where it can reach more people and stay in existence longer. Maybe she can even create fun animations to go along with it.
I am enjoying this new imagining. It allows for growth with reduced resistance. I still have to bridge the gap between my creative work and people of the world. I think this new persona would come up with all sorts of fun ways to make that happen.
