Day 24 (Sheila) – Revision Makes a Story Stronger

I feel like one of the many benefits of being a writer is that it is inevitable that you’ll pull some lessons or experiences from your life as seeds for stories. I have also often journaled about situations throughout my life as a way to sort through it. Many times it is a great way to vent and let out the emotion without barfing it on people. It can also help you see different possibilities.

I love the rewriting the story element of today’s prompt. It is actually a reframing. A lot of time the meaning that we ascribe to things are just as made up as fiction. We are viewing the situation through whatever filters we created based on various inputs we might have had in the past that we have learned to interpret a certain way.

If we put on a different filter – the ideal self filter – mayhap there is room for growth. Maybe those moments we perceived as negative were part of our hero-origin story.

That’s certainly how I choose to see them now.
